In celebration of World Sleep Day, we’re highlighting a retail chain that achieved a spectacular, record-breaking feat: the tallest stack of mattresses ever assembled.
World Sleep Day draws attention to the vital role quality sleep plays in an individual’s medical, educational, and social well-being. In recognition of this message, Retail Service Systems, Inc. (RSS) and its subsidiary mattress retail chain, BoxDrop, set out to create something truly extraordinary.
On January 5, 2021, the companies gathered in Jacksonville, Florida, at TIAA Bank Field—home of the Jacksonville Jaguars—to attempt the record during RSS’s three-day annual National Conference. The ambitious effort celebrated the company’s continued growth and marked an exciting start to the new year.
To ensure stability, king-sized Sleep2Win Smart Beds were used at the base of the stack to support the growing tower.
“We used king sizes to provide a stable base,” explained Michael Loomis, Vice President of Product and Innovation at Corsicana.
As conference attendees looked on, seven participants carefully stacked more than 40 mattresses inside the stadium. Among those present and actively supporting the effort was BoxDrop Greenville, whose team helped contribute to the successful world record attempt.
An on-site surveyor closely monitored the stack to ensure all official guidelines were met, including that the structure remained upright and stable for a full 10 seconds. Once the timekeepers confirmed the hold, the record was officially secured.
Retail Service Systems, Inc. and BoxDrop achieved the Guinness World Records title for the tallest stack of mattresses, reaching 43 mattresses and a height of 7.416 meters (24 feet 4 inches).
The achievement was formally announced the following evening at the conference dinner, where RSS celebrated company-wide successes and recognized the historic milestone.
